is a collection of plaster relief decorative art. The tiles are created by artist Irena Tweedie using plants, seashells and other objects to make impressions into wet clay which she then casts in plaster. This original cast is used to make a silicone mold allowing a reproduction of tiles made of fine art plaster.
FOSSIL TILES

Designed to stand alone or come together to tell a bigger story, these tiles bring beauty, intention and personality into a space. The soft, organic forms create a calm presence—subtle, timeless, and quietly expressive.

About Irena...

I have always loved creating and collecting things. After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts from McMaster University I spent several years making paintings that incorporated subtle textures using textiles and stitching. When I became a mother, I stepped away from my studio

practice to focus on being a stay-at-home parent to my son. While being present for him each day has been a gift, it also meant navigating a period in which I no longer had the energy or emotional space to sustain my own work. In order to fill this void I began creating art with my son. It was during this time that I first started casting objects as a project with him. We initially pressed his toys and little trinkets into clay observing the texture prints they left behind and making plaster casts of them. Inspired by these fossil like pieces I continued to explore this process by casting plants from my garden and seashells I have collected over the years. I was drawn to the subtle elegance and organic textures of the finished pieces. What began as a personal project—creating tiles to fill an empty wall in my home—gradually evolved into the Fossil Tiles collection.
